Cottonwood Elementary staff have been so impressed with the perseverance that the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have shown while taking the Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium (SBAC). The Smarter Balanced assessment system provides educators with standards-aligned tools and resources to support their teaching and improve student learning.
This testing system includes a suite of assessments and tools, including instructional supports, interim assessments, and summative assessments. The goal is to support effective teaching and maximize learning for each individual student. All public schools in Washington administer this online test which includes extended research, writing, and problem solving tasks in order to measure critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Third, 4th and 5th grades participated in the English Language Arts (ELA) and Math test. Fifth graders also took the Washington Comprehensive Assessment of Science. "We are very proud of every 3rd, 4th, and 5th grader for working so hard on the SBAC and for not giving up." said Principal Michelle Siguenza
